Okanagan Folk School Hosts
Community Arts Program
Our Mission is focused on enriching lives and building community.
by teaching hands-on learning that inspires creativity
Over the past 12 months, the Community Art Program has expanded significantly to offer a wide range of accessible, inclusive arts programming for residents of all ages and backgrounds. Building on the foundation of craft workshops for the general public, the program has grown to include expanded components that serve children, youth at risk, and seniors providing creative engagement opportunities that strengthen social connection, emotional resilience, skill development, and community well-being.

The Community Art Program addresses critical social, emotional, and creative needs in Peachland and surrounding areas. As a small town with limited access to ongoing arts and culture programming, particularly outside peak tourism seasons, residents face barriers to creative engagement, social connection, and personal development. National research highlights that nearly 1 in 4 Canadians experience chronic loneliness, with seniors, at-risk youth, and rural residents particularly vulnerable. Arts-based programs have been shown to improve mental health, build confidence, foster connection, and reduce isolation. In addition, arts programs create vital opportunities for community resilience, giving individuals a sense of purpose, belonging, and voice during times of social and economic uncertainty.

The Community Art Program offers consistent, inclusive, and accessible creative learning opportunities for children, youth at risk, adults, and seniors. It plays a vital role in promoting well-being, skill-building, cultural preservation, and economic development by supporting local artists and strengthening Peachland's identity as a growing hub for community arts.
